Impromptu sessions

photo DSC_1742.jpg What do you do when you get a text that a couple of local GTRs were having a small impromptu meet? Grab all your gear and high tail it to the location pronto? Well, maybe. But no, unfortunately, yours truely read the text while sitting in heavy traffic on the way home and by the time i got back, it was almost an hour after the appointed time. So i sent a friendly apology having to miss out on the invite. But as luck would have it, these Godzillas headed to a location just 20 minutes away from my home. With no more excuses this time, i grabbed the keys to the Garage36 jalopy and headed off straight to Changi Airport. Please excuse the low-fi camera-phone pictures though. photo DSC_1750.jpg photo DSC_1744.jpg photo DSC_1754.jpg One of the cleanest GTR32 outside the factory. photo DSC_1755.jpg Factory fresh interior. photo DSC_1747.jpg Beautiful Bayside blue San-yon. photo DSC_1765.jpg photo IMG_20140531_032244.jpg For more pictures, check out Vanq's facebook page»

Singapore Skylines: Kaijus in the rain

photo DSC08878_500.jpg Some say, you should never meet your childhood heroes. They say we might be disappointed if we learnt that our heroes were not as heroic as we thought them out to be. On some days, they could have been right, but this was not to be one of those days. Today, one of my childhood heroes comes out to play after a 3-year restoration period. photo DSC08870_500.jpg photo DSC08879_500.jpg Now, i have seen GTRs aplenty back in their native land of Japan. Being one of my "hero" cars was i was growing up, seeing one locally felt almost surreal. Especially one as lovingly rebuilt as this. photo IMG_20131015_093719_500.jpg The weather in the morning played a foul mistress though as a fierce thunderstorm erupted the night before and teased us throughout our short meet. Whenever it was time to set off for a shoot, the clouds opened up and gave us their all. photo DSC08884_500.jpg It was frustrating but almost fitting i guess. It sure reminded me of the movie Pacific Rim, when the Kaijus appear, it rains. So with not one but 2 Godzillas on the prowl, i guess i should have expected it. photo DSC08900_500.jpg We tried waiting for the rain to subside and just when it looked like we might have a glimmer of sunlight, we headed off... photo DSC08901_500.jpg ...Only to have the dark clouds follow our little convoy. photo DSC08906_500.jpg Less than 5 minutes in, another wave of rain fell... photo DSC08909_500.jpg photo DSC08912_500.jpg ...and it fell hard. photo DSC_0941_500.jpg I seeked shelted inside my car as our resident pro-photog endured the wetness and continued firing away. (Check out his shot here) photo DSC08917_500.jpg With the rain belting down with no respite, we adjourned for another cup of coffee. photo DSC_0948_500.jpg photo DSC_0954_500.jpg A good cuppa later, it was time for the Kaijus to go home, and just as you know it, the dark clouds left and the rain stopped. photo IMG_20131015_104655_500.jpg The only disappointment here? I would have loved to have spent more time with the R32 but i guess. Another time perhaps, another time.
